Indigenous Heritage & Cultural Practices

Celebrating the rich traditions of Northeast India

Our Vision

In a world shaped by rapid industrialisation and consumerist goals, often achieved at the expense of the environment, it has become imperative and urgent to pause, reflect and reimagine the ways in which our actions impact the world we inhabit. This seminar envisions a future that is ecologically balanced and centred around social justice by highlighting and strengthening women's roles in building and sustaining such a future through cultural knowledge, sustainable practices, and ecological wisdom.

At the heart of this vision lies the intersection of Women, Culture, and Environment. We critically engage with structures that exploit the environment through fast fashion industries and explore sustainable alternatives offered by Indigenous textile traditions, particularly from Northeast India. The seminar also traces the history of textile traditions, explores indigenous food culture, traditional health knowledge, and incorporates the framework of slow science to honour indigenous and ecologically sustainable ways of life.
